Kim Dotcom makes final stand against extradition

From Morning Report, 6:42 am on 10 June 2019

Kim Dotcom will make his final stand against extradition to the United States in the Supreme Court on Monday, more than seven years after he was arrested in dramatic fashion at his mansion in Auckland.

The US Department of Justice has been trying to extradite the internet entrepreneur and three other men since 2012, to face criminal charges related to their defunct file-sharing website Megaupload.

They argue the site was a clearing house for pirated movies and music, but Kim Dotcom has always insisted Megaupload gave people online storage and was not responsible for the material people stored on it.

RNZ reporter Kate Newton has been following the story and there were numerous legal challenges before the extradition process finally reached the courts in 2015.
