FIFA Women's World Cup: Erceg mentally, physically ready

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 7 June 2019

The veteran New Zealand football player Abby Erceg says they're in a good place mentally and physically heading into the FIFA Women's World Cup.

The tournament opens tomorrow with the hosts France playing South Korea, while New Zealand's opening game is against the Netherlands next Wednesday.

This is the fifth time New Zealand has been to a World Cup finals, but they're yet to win a game and are yet to make it past group play.

This will be the fourth tournament for the US-based defender Erceg. She retired twice, before returning earlier this year following the independent review into the organisation and previous coach Andreas Heraf.

Abby Erceg told Barry Guy the set-up is certainly a lot more settled. New Zealand open their World cup campaign against the Netherlands in Le Havre next Wednesday.
