Pell appeals child abuse convictions at Supreme Court

From Morning Report, 8:47 am on 6 June 2019

In Melbourne the state's Supreme Court is preparing for day two of Cardinal George Pell's appeal against his conviction for child sexual abuse.

Pell was found guilty by a jury last year of abusing two boys at the city's St Patrick's cathedral in 1996.

On Wednesday, Pell's lawyer argued that the child sex abuse offences would have been "impossible" for him to have committed and a jury should have found him not guilty - even if they believed his victim.
