The Kōhanga Reo National Trust says a $32 million cash injection from the government will help keep open centres that have been struggling for years.

While there were once as many as 800 Kōhanga Reo across the country that number's fallen to around 440.

There were tears of relief from many Kōhanga Reo staff when they heard they would no longer be working for aroha, which doesn't pay the bills.

Daniel Procter is the Kōhanga Reo National Trust deputy chair. He talks to Susie Ferguson.
