Govt plans Digital Services Tax for online multinationals

From Morning Report, 7:26 am on 5 June 2019

The government is considering options for taxing online corporations such as Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Uber and Airbnb.

A Digital Services Tax of two to three percent on turnover is one of the proposed options currently under consultation to put an end to offshore tech giants not paying their fair share of tax.

These measures would be an interim solution until the OECD reaches an international agreement on how to tax the sector.
