Missing boatie maybe lost days earlier than thought - police

From Morning Report, 6:46 am on 5 June 2019

Invercargill police searching for a boatie missing on a Southland lake, think he and the woman he was with may have got into trouble nearly a week before they were reported missing last Friday.

On Saturday a woman's body, and debris from their 4m fibreglass boatboat including squabs, camping items and food, were found at Lake Hauroko.

The water temperature is 12degC at the surface.

Sergeant Ian Martin says the Christchurch couple, who are in their 60s, headed out on a camping trip to Caroline Hut - halfway around the lake - a week earlier on Sunday May 26.

Sergeant Martin says they intended to spend up to five nights there, but their names aren't in the hut visitors' book.
