Auckland mayoralty vote: What options for the right?

From Morning Report, 6:14 am on 5 June 2019

With less than four months until the Auckland mayoral elections, there are slim pickings for right leaning voters. National is not backing anyone, nor is it planning to.

The two leading contenders, Phil Goff and John Tamihere, both have very strong Labour backgrounds - even if they say they are candidates for all.

There are right-leaning candiates, like John Palino and Craig Lord, but they are not endorsed by the right establishment and are outside chances.

Alistair Bell is a National board member and on the executive team of the right leaning council political grouping C&R.

He spoke to RNZ reporter Rowan Quinn, and says his comments are not on behalf of the National Party.
