NZ digital sector backs govt online tax plan

The New Zealand digital sector is backing a government proposal to tax big online companies. The government says a tax on the turnover of companies like Facebook, Google, Uber and Airbnb is one option. The OECD is working on a plan to tax multinational online operators but NZRise, which represents the country's digital sector, says the government should start taxing now. It's co-chair Don Christie told RNZ reporter Kate Gudsell their tax-free status puts New Zealand firms at a disadvantage.
