Tourists flee cruise ship crash in Venice

From Morning Report, 8:20 am on 4 June 2019

A tourist who could only watch as the cruise ship he was on crashed in Venice, has described seeing people desperately trying to get out of its way.

A New Zealand woman was one of at least four people injured when the 54-metre high MSC Opera ploughed into the dock and a smaller tourist boat on a canal in the Italian city.

Footage shows people running away screaming as horns blare out a warning.

New Zealand's embassy in Rome is providing assistance to the New Zealander involved in the collision.

Our Italy correspondent, Josephine McKenna, says it's incredible that there wasn't more damage or injuries, and the Venetian people are outraged by the incident.
