Everest must be only for experienced climbers - mountaineer

From Morning Report, 8:53 am on 29 May 2019

Mount Everest is making it into the record books again, but not for any good reasons.

This year has already been counted as the fourth-highest number of fatalities on the mountain as a second climber is found dead in the space of a week on the world's highest peak.

Overcrowding and inexperienced climbers are being blamed for the high numbers of people dying.

In January, Morning Report spoke to Tenzing Norgay's son - Norbu Tenzing - who said limiting the number of people attempting to scale Mount Everest would save lives.

Susie Ferguson also speaks to mountaineer Alan Arnette about the traffic on Everest. He agrees with Norbu Tenzing.
