Teachers' mega-strike: What you need to know

An unprecedented joint strike by primary, secondary and area school teachers could close more than 2,000 schools, keeping more than 700,000 children at home.

Members of the Educational Institute and the Post Primary Teachers Association are holding rallies and marches throughout New Zealand, including a march on Parliament at midday.

They are demanding a better pay deal from the government, smaller class sizes and more time away from the classroom.

RNZ education correspondent, John Gerritsen, joins Corin Dann with the details.
