M bovis: Farmers urged to follow national tracking system

From Morning Report, 7:44 am on 27 May 2019

The Minister of Agriculture Damien O'Connor is calling for dairy farmers to step up and comply with the national tracking system, with just days to go until moving day.

That's June 1, when sharemilkers move their cows to new farms around the country - and it's a stressful time for officials because movement of stock is the main way the disease Mycoplasma bovis spreads.

But still nearly 8,000 dairy farms have not re-registed with the National (Nate) tracking system.

Mr O'Connor tells Corin Dann the 'softly-softly' approach with farmers who've been slow to sign up to the system will be ending soon.
