Oranga Tamariki defends cell-time for young offenders

Almost 200 young offenders were held in police cells last year - for periods of more than 24 hours and, in some cases, up to seven days. With the youth court age increasing in July, a Nelson lawyer says more must be done to ensure there are suitable facilities for young offenders. But Oranga Tamariki - the Ministry for Children - says it sometimes has no other choice. RNZ youth affairs reporter Katie Doyle has the story.
