Nelson City Council declares climate emergency
Nelson has declared a climate emergency, the second council in New Zealand to do so, following Canterbury. They join other local governments in Australia, Canada and the US adopting the same tactic. Declaring a climate emergency is largely symbolic, and simply acknowledges that there are things they need to be doing to help stop climate change. Nelson's declaration was prompted in part by the recent natural disasters in the region. Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese talks to Susie Ferguson.
