NZQA downgrades quality rating for 'marginal' Unitec

The Qualifications Authority has delivered a humiliating blow to a struggling polytechnic, Unitec, lowering its quality rating and describing its educational performance as marginal. Unitec is now in quality category three, the second-lowest of the four quality categories, meaning the authority is not yet confident in its educational performance or ability to assess how well it is doing. It's the second time NZQA has downgraded Unitec's quality rating in recent years - in 2016 it fell from a one to a two - and the institute has been struggling with falling enrolments and multi-million-dollar losses.
