The government is defending the commemorations for Captain Cook's arrival to New Zealand 250 years ago.
Some Māori are calling for a boycott of Tuia Encounters 250, saying they're divisive, short-sighted, and a slap in the face for Māori. Indigenous right's advocate Tina Ngata says Cook's actions are not a cause for celebration.
Māori-Crown Relations Minister Kelvin Davis tells Susie Ferguson the commemorations are an opportunity for māori voices to be heard.
