Education Secretary responds to teachers' mega-strike

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 13 May 2019

The Education Minister says the teachers' mega strike is not justified and it won't achieve any breakthrough in pay talks. Primary and secondary teachers will walk off the job for one day on May 29 in what will be the largest ever industrial action taken by teachers, involving almost 50,000 members. The secondary teachers union the PPTA says its members have also voted for five weeks of industrial action after the strike, which is still to be planned. Chris Hipkins is frustrated by the stand-off but insists there is no more money in the budget for teachers. Secretary for Education Iona Holsted joins us to discuss the details.
