Car owners hit by dodgy WOF debacle

A Far North motorist caught up in the warrant of fitness debacle is struggling to know if her car is safe to drive or not. The Transport Agency has told Ruby MacKinnon she can't get another warrant unless it inspects her car, though that could take three weeks. This comes after conflicting inspections at two different garages - one that failed and one that passed the car's seatbelts. Ms MacKinnon believes she's the victim of an over-zealous initial inspection, due to in part to inspectors being nervous about a belated agency crackdown on dodgy operators. The Motor Trade Assocation confirmed that garages are nervous and are more inclined to fail cars now, than before the clampdown. The Association says the transport agency's own warrant inspection manual is also at fault because it's too vague.
