Elderly women fight Auckland Council over development
A group of women in their late 70s and 80s are taking on Auckland Council and its development arm Panuku over a controversial upmarket development that will dwarf their tiny pensioner flats. The women will give evidence in the Environment Court after writing powerful letters to the council about how the apartment block planned for the corner of Valley and Dominion Roads will disrupt their lives if its allowed to go to five storeys. And they're vowing to keep up the fight as they urge the council not to dismiss them as "just some old biddies". Rowan Quinn reports.
