Taupō fatal crash: 'We've had enough' - mayor

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 29 April 2019

The mayor of Taupō says a car accident that killed eight people is a tragedy for a community that's still recovering from another devastating crash earlier in the month. Eight people died yesterday when their van crossed double yellow lines and collided with an oncoming SUV on State Highway One, halfway between Taupō and Tokoroa. The sole survivor of the crash is a nine-year-old boy, who is in a serious but stable condition in Waikato hospital. On April the first, a family of five was killed in a crash about 10 kilometres from this latest accident. Inspector Brent Crowe says local emergency staff have had a difficult month.
