NZ nurse Louisa Akavi abducted in Syria

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 16 April 2019

Winston Peters is accusing Red Cross of futher endangering the life of New Zealand nurse Lousia Akavi by going public with her kidnapping. Louisa Avaki was on her 17th mission, delivering medical supplies in Syria, when five years ago the convoy she was travelling in came under attack - seven people were abducted. Four were released the next day but Louisa and two Syrian drivers were not among them. Since then the government here has placed a strict embargo on naming Ms Akavi fearing any publicity would put her life at risk. It is believed earlier this year Ms Akavi was still being held by IS in the village of Baghouz, where a small band of the most fanatical Isis militants made their final stand against Kurdish-led forces. Dominik Stillhart from the International Red Cross in Geneva explains why it decided to reveal her identity.
