Gun owners in favour of law change 'scum', lobbyists say

From Morning Report, 7:28 am on 8 April 2019

Changes to the country's gun laws will get a final look-over today before the bill goes back before Parliament. The Finance and Expenditure committee met for two hours on Friday to consider public submissions on the plan to ban military-style assault rifles and high-calibre semi-automatics. The new law was rushed into Parliament in the aftermath of the Christchurch Mosque attacks with the support of all MPs - except Act Party leader David Seymour. Labour MP Michael Wood chairs the select committee. He tells Guyon Espiner a minority of submissions from gun lobbyists have labelled other gun owners who favour the changes "scum" and "traitors".
