West Coast MP responds to criticism of stopbank proposal

The Westland District mayor is vowing to fight a proposal that would remove the flood protection stopbanks at Waiho River and allow the river to return to its natural course. The regional council is considering the option after experts said it offered the best long term solution to controlling floods. However, Mayor Bruce Smith says locals strongly oppose the idea. The MP for West Coast-Tasman is Damien O'Connor, and he's in our Wellington studio.
