Thames-Coromandel council urged to sign climate change pact

From Morning Report, 6:20 am on 1 April 2019

A climate action group says sea level rise in the Thames Coromandel district will impose a huge financial burden on ratepayers and the council needs to sign up to a climate change declaration. The council will vote on Tuesday on whether to sign the Local Government New Zealand declaration. Council figures given to Hauraki Coromandel Climate Action show a half metre sea level rise would mean a $63.5 million bill to replace infrastructure. The group's Sheena Beaton tells Kate Gudsell the council needs to show leadership.
