Fox Glacier remains cut off after storm

From Morning Report, 6:17 am on 29 March 2019

Fox Glacier remains in the dark ages after this week's massive storm with a communications blackout. The township has been without phone, mobile or internet connection since the Waiho Bridge was washed away on Tuesday afternoon, along with the Chorus fibre cable. Vodafone has erected a temporary cellphone tower in the town centre but most of the town is with Spark. Alana - who runs an accommodation business in the town - borrowed the Vodafone technician's phone to drive 35 minutes up the road to Franz Josef to make business calls. While she was there RNZ reporter Ruth Hill also got through to her.
