Hawea wastewater plant breaching its consent for 7 years

A Wastewater Treatment Plant at Lake Hawea has been polluting surrounding land with excess levels of nitrogen for seven years in breach of its resource consent. But the problem has only just come to light after the Hawea Community Association raised concerns with the Otago Regional Council. One of Otago's regional councillors, Michael Laws, is accusing his own organisation being sleep at the wheel when it comes to policing consents. Ben Strang reports.
