Wellington bus operator hit with 17,000 fines in five months

The bus operator NZ Bus has been fined more than 17,000 times in five months for failing to meet its contract requirements in Wellington. The fines include 3207 cancellations, 8451 late services and 6005 instances of using buses that were too small for the route. NZ Bus has also been asked by The Greater Wellington Regional Council to appoint a new manager in the capital, so that it can better meet its contractual obligations. The mayor, Justin Lester, speaks to Guyon Espiner.
