Veteran, 95, says mosque tragedy can promote understanding

From Morning Report, 6:12 am on 28 March 2019

A Second World War veteran who joined an anti-racism rally in the wake of the attacks in Christchurch says tragedy can promote understanding. Aucklander John Sato is 95 years old and one of only two Kiwi-Japanese to serve in the New Zealand army during the war. At the weekend, he heard vigils and memorials were being held, so he hopped on a bus and decided to go into the city centre, where a rally was being held in Aotea Square. He told reporter Chen Liu that life's too short for hatred.
