Wellington approves $112m Town Hall strengthening

From Morning Report, 8:52 am on 28 February 2019

The Wellington City Council has agreed to increase the budget for quake-proofing the town hall to $112 million - almost triple the $43 million estimate it received in 2013. And the cost could be even higher - councillors also voted to set up a contingency fund to cover further blowouts. That figure hasn't been made public, but council documents show that two years ago a $23 million fund would be needed. Wellington's mayor Justin Lester speaks to Susie Ferguson.
