Climate change declaration 'politically driven' - mayor
The mayor of the Thames-Coromandel district is rejecting a push to get local authorities to sign up to a declaration on climate change, calling it politically driven. Local Government New Zealand is encouraging councils to sign the declaration that sets out ways they could address climate change - including promoting walking and public transport. On Tuesday members of the public attended a Thames Coromandel District Council meeting, urging councillors to sign the declaration. But the Thames-Coromandel mayor, Sandra Goudie, told Kate Gudsell she's against it.
