New Plymouth man arrested after 11-hour police standoff

A person is in custody after an 11-hour stand-off with armed police in New Plymouth. The police responded to a family harm call-out in the suburb of Spotswood at just after 10am on Sunday Streets were cordoned off and residents were told to stay inside. Residents inside the cordon told RNZ that it had been a hostage situation, and the police said one person left the house in the afternoon while another remained at the house. Jason Fox, who lives about 70 metres away, says he got home just before lunchtime on Sunday.
