Wellington trains halted in heat, thousands stranded

About 8,500 Wellington commuters were left stranded during rush hour on Tuesday when train services were cancelled at peak rush hour. Unusually high temperatures caused a problem with the overhead wires and trains on the Johnsonville and Hutt Valley lines had to be cancelled. It also lead to delays on the Wairarapa line and Kapiti lines.
