The West Coast Regional Council wants more science to prove that human driven climate change is happening before it will commit to reducing emissions. That's despite some of its ratepayers saying the sea lapping at their doors is all the evidence they need. The council does not support the government's bill which sets out a plan for zero carbon emissions by 2050. It's the only regional council in the country to reject it.
