Mt Everest limits would save lives - Tenzing

From Morning Report, 8:42 am on 24 January 2019

Tenzing Norgay's son Norbu Tenzing says a move to limit the number of people attempting to scale Mount Everest would save lives. China has announced it will cut the number of people attempting to scale the mountain as part of plans for a major clean-up on the world's highest peak. It comes as two sons of Nepal's most famous Sherpa Tenzing Norgay - Norbu Tenzing and his brother, Dhamey Tenzing - are in New Zealand to discuss indigneous approaches to tourism with Māori. Norbu Tenzing tells Susie Ferguson that money had become more important than safety in many cases of climbers attempting to scale the dangerous peak.
