Paris cleans up after riots over tax plans

From Morning Report, 7:20 am on 10 December 2018

Workers in Paris are again clearing the streets of glass and towing away burnt-out cars after anti-government protesters wrecked havoc in the city for the fourth Saturday in a row. Across the city, banks and shops had boarded up storefronts smashed by protesters and walls and windows were covered in anti-Macron slogans. More than 1200 people have been arrested and 71 injured in in violent clashes with police - who used tear gas and rubber bullets, while protestors hurled projectiles, torched cars and vandalised shops and restaurants. Hugh Scholfield is in Paris and tells Gyles Beckford that while things were bad, the police seemed to have a greater grip on the situation.
