Dodgy WOF-passed cars fail rechecks

From Morning Report, 6:38 am on 7 December 2018

Two thirds of the cars rechecked so far amid the warrant of fitness crisis have failed their re-inspection. About 750 vehicles have been checked - 465 failed and needed repairs. One man who deliberately sought out a mechanic he thought would give him an easy Warrant of Fitness pass car says it wasn't worth the few dollars he saved. RNZ has agreed not to name the man who was involved in a rear-end collision when his brakes locked up. He'd been getting his car serviced at a garage in Auckland that was known for its cheap and easy-to-pass WOFs. He spoke to RNZ reporter Phil Pennington.
