Ex-gang member calls for Man Up programme in prisons
A former gang member who spent years of his life in prison is dismissing prison rehabilitation courses as a waste of time. Ritchie Fa'avesi is now a facilitator for Destiny Church's Man Up programme, which Corrections won't let inside prisons. But Mr Fa'avesi says despite doing other courses in jail, nothing changed for him until he did the Man Up programme when he was out - which he says completely turned his life around. RNZ reporter Laura Dooney spoke to Ritchie Fa'avesi at a Man Up hui in Lower Hutt. On Thursday, members of Man Up and the women's equivalent, Legacy, will march to Parliament to demand the programmes be allowed into prisons.
