Twenty truck firms face closure over safety concerns

From Morning Report, 6:40 am on 30 November 2018

An unknown number of trucks are on the roads operated by companies that are on the verge of being shut down for safety reasons. Twenty truck companies have been warned they could lose their licences to operate. On top of that, 29 drivers face losing their licences - four have been suspended immediately. The Transport Agency can't name the companies till after a month-long appeal period is up. The lead investigator Steve Haszard of law firm Meredith Connell, says the breaches include poor maintenance, long hours and driver fatigue. RNZ reporter Phil Pennington asked him if he's shocked at what he's finding.
