Millions harmed by faulty medical implants
The international Consortium of Investigative Journalists Medical that brought you the Panama Papers has taken aim at medical devices that are unsafe and have not been adequately tested. The devices include heart pacemakers, mesh, contraceptives, breast implants and artificial knees and hips. The investigation by more than 250 journalists found a lax system of regulation that allows companies to "shop around" dozens of safety organisations until one of them approves their product. Fergus Shiel is with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and joins us from Washington, DC.
