El Chapo trial for drug trafficking begins in New York
The trial of one of the world's most powerful drug traffickers is due to begin in New York later on Wednesday (NZ time). Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was extradited to the United States last year after twice escaping from prison in Mexico. Prosecutors allege that under his leadership the Sinaloa cartel smuggled vast quantities of drugs into the United States. Brooklyn bridge will be closed while El Chapo is driven from prison to the court. Our correspondent in New York is Nick Harper, he talks to Susie Ferguson.
