Primary school teacher strikes begin in Auckland

From Morning Report, 6:43 am on 12 November 2018

Primary school teachers and principals are walking off the job in Auckland today, kicking off week-long rolling strikes across the country. That's despite a new $700 million offer from the Ministry of Education. The union says its 30,000 members will consider the offer and the recommendations by the Employment Relations Authority during the strike action. The Authority, which has been mediating talks has called the government's offer generous and teachers demands 'totally unrealistic'. The President of the NZEI Lynda Stuart says they have not rejected the offer, they are still considering it.
