Internal Affairs Minister welcomes boxing WOF idea

A boxing referee says people wanting to enter charity events need a lot more than the usual 12 weeks' training. David Craig, a former president of the National Boxing Federation, says the death of a Christchurch man after an event last weekend is tragic. He says untrained amateurs need to spend at least a year training to learn some of the basics of self defence in the ring. Kain Parsons' death at the Fight for Christchurch event is under investigation by the police and the coroner. The Department of Internal Affairs oversees boxing and wrestling association contests under the Boxing and Wrestling Act. Minister of Internal Affairs Tracey Martin talks to Susie Ferguson.
