Extra vigilance urged on once-rare meningococcal strain

GPs and emergency departments are on extra alert for a once-rare strain of meningococcal disease that has killed six people in the past year. The MenW strain, which is being blamed for an overall increase in the number of meningococcal cases, appears to have a higher mortality rate and poorer outcomes for patients. Nikki Turner is head of the Auckland University Immunisation Advisory Centre. She talks to Kim Hill.
