Whānau must address ageing population challenges - researcher

From Morning Report, 6:17 am on 25 October 2018

A Māori researcher wants whānau to start talking about the unavoidable challenges of an ageing population. A new piece of research - the Kaumatuatanga Report - focuses on the concerns and aspirations for kaumatua who use Whānau Ora services. By 2021, it's forecast that one in eight Māori will be 65 years or older, with increasing numbers of kaumātua also looking after their mokopuna. Te Pou Matakana Whānau Ora research director Tanya Allport told reporter John Boynton that it's still taboo for Māori to openly discuss the care of their kaumātua.
