The Deerhunters Association says the heat has now been taken out of the fight to save tahr as the Conservation Minister has given ground. on parts of the plan. A meeting was held yesterday between Eugenie Sage and hunting groups as well as conservation groups and iwi. Eugenie Sage had said the aim was to remove 10,000 Himalayan Tahr from the Southern Alps over the next eight months. The past-president of the Deerstalkers Association Bill O'Leary told RNZ reporter, Kate Gudsell, a draft plan was agreed on at the meeting which would reduce the number of tahr to be killed and that bull tahr would not be targetted.
