Principals fear more unfilled teacher vacancies
Auckland primary school principals expect to finish the year with a hundred unfilled vacancies and they are nervous about their chances of starting next year with enough teachers. The city's secondary school principals are also worried, warning that schools will find it devilishly hard to replace staff who resign in the next couple of months. The Education Ministry is trying to recruit 400 teachers from overseas but principals say they've been told a further 250 will be needed in schools next year.
