West Coast hoki fishery 'collapsed' - Russel Norman

From Morning Report, 8:15 am on 27 September 2018

The fishing industry will reduce its West Coast hoki catch by 20,000 tonnes in response to low catch rates. Industry leaders say they're taking the step - a 20 percent reduction - in the best interests of preserving the fishery's long term future. Sealord's operations manager Doug Paulin says hoki catch rates off the West Coast have been falling for several seasons. Greenpeace has long demanded action to save what it calls a collapsing hoki fishery. Its chief executive Russel Norman joins Guyon Espiner in the studio to discuss.
