China trying to 'meddle' in mid-term elections, Trump claims

Donald Trump has accused China of interfering in the upcoming United States mid-term elections with the aim of damaging him politically. The US president made the accusation while he was chairing a meeting of the United Nations' Security Council. He suggested the meddling attempts came as retribution for the budding trade war he has waged with Beijing. President Trump did not present any evidence of his accusations. Politico's White House correspondent Josh Gerstein says Donald Trump has leapt at the chance to divert attention away from the accusations of Russian interfererence.
