'Disputed overpayments' are not benefit fraud - Child Poverty Action

About half the benefit fraud investigations launched by the Ministry of Social Development involve questions about the relationship status of beneficiaries. Latest official figures show few result in prosecutions, prompting complaints officials are too quick to pry into beneficiaries' private lives. Solo parents are the group most likely to spark suspicions they're breaking relationship rules. The Child Poverty Action Group says children being raised by a single beneficiary are suffering because of the restrictions placed on their parents.
