NZ breakfast radio legend Merv Smith dies

From Morning Report, 8:56 am on 25 September 2018

Merv Smith, who was the king of commercial breakfast radio for nearly three decades, has died. He took over the breakfast slot on Auckland's old 1ZB station in 1961 and topped the ratings until he left 26 years later. He was also a familiar face on television and was perhaps the country's most prominent celebrity rail enthusiast. Bill Francis is a former ZB station manager and long time friend of Merv Smith.
